Learn to protect your IoT and reasons behind it

With the advancement in the field of technology, IoT devices are gaining much popularity especially in the making of household products. With the press of a single button, one is capable of operating all the products that one finds necessary. It sounds very interesting and yes, of course, we all are very happy to use such a device.

However, matters are not really that simple how we expect them to be.

Those helpful devices might turn out to be dangerous by misusing them. The question of security arises, that too when it is related to our household. Since all the devices are connected via IoT the consequences of not securing them might turn off to be bad.

While discussing crimes the first thing that peeps in mind is about Cybercrimes, where hackers might try to hack the personal information or can go beyond that by harming someone, just by engaging malware on the devices, which nobody wants. So, it is better to secure all the IoT devices before anyone starts intervening.

Below is the list of some precautionary measures, you can take to avoid unwanted circumstances while using IoT devices-

Using a secured network-

The first and foremost important thing to be kept in mind is to check the network through which you are connecting. Never connect anything via public networks. You must use a secure private network to connect all the devices.

Setting a password-

You can prevent hackers from stealing any information is by setting up a strong password. Default passwords can be easily tracked down by hackers, so, you must not set any easy password. You can always use Password Manager by creating a case-sensitive password which must also contain numbers and special characters. Also, you can reset the password after a certain time to prevent hacking.

Update the software-

All the companies manufacturing the IoT devices are regularly working on the up-gradation of the software. The buyers must update the software of the devices, for increased performance and securing better privacy levels.

Limiting the Access-

It is very much necessary to limit the access of the device by not using the Internet when it is not necessary. This way you can reduce the chances of getting hacked.

Turning off the UPnP-

Universal Plug and play enable various devices like PC, intelligent appliances, and wireless devices to connect automatically via network and it can be attacked easily by cybercriminals. So, it is advisable to turn off the UPnP although it helps to set up the device.

Despite taking all the measures, your information might get hacked, as there is no 100 % perfect solution for anything. Still, it is sensible, to take precautions for fewer chances of getting hacked.

But what if your device gets hacked in spite of taking precautions?

If, your device gets hacked the primary thing you need to do is –

1. Gain control to collect the important data first rather than controlling the entire system again.

2. Separate the section that has been attacked as soon as possible, to prevent the hackers from collecting the other information.

3. Inform everyone who might get affected because of this security breach, and ask them to take necessary precautions as well.

4. Fix the section where security was lacking, through which the hackers entered the system.

Once you are aware of all the actions to be taken to prevent hackers, it will the easy to use IoT devices without any tension.
